Susannah Hallcroft

Actress, Singer, Facilitator

Biog/CV

Whilst growing up in Walsall, I started to explore drama at Aldridge Youth Theatre, before joining Birmingham Rep’s Youth Workshop. I then studied Biochemistry at Bath University, which enabled me to live in New York and Frankfurt, before pursuing drama more seriously with a foundation course at Mountview. I trained at Central School of Speech and Drama under Maggie Kinloch, on the PG Dip Advanced Theatre Practice.

There are a number of themes that seem to run through the work that I have done. Firstly my comedy highlights include a sketch show on Sky One, a few independent features- Whatever Happened to Pete Blaggit?, by Mark Jeavons is currently in post production and I had so much fun in Confusions with Ayckbourn at Leatherhead Theatre. The training in devised theatre has led to a number of strands of work, including street theatre with No Such Thing theatre company. Devised theatre combined with my background in science has enabled me to work in medical roleplay, which developed into roleplaying in corporate environments.  I have continued to work with writers, which led to me going to Edinburgh, in The Coach by PJ Sheahan, a part that I first read as part of a writers group. Currently I am involved in Emerge playreading group, which is organised by Script to use Equity members to read new pieces for West Midlands writers.

Another strand that has developed over the years is working in the Community and in schools.  Scientific Reactions is where I pursue my interest in science  and imagination. Through this I have been a Creative Practitioner on a number of projects, and lead workshops that get pupils to use their imagination in a science context. Currently I am one of the directors of Shoebox theatre, which works intergenerationally,  with community groups, including people with Special needs and Dementia.
